A policeman was killed and four others wounded after unidentified gunmen opened fire on security personnel guarding a polio vaccination team in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday.
The incident occurred in Thall tehsil of Hangu district on the first day of a nationwide vaccination campaign running from 13 to 19 April, Geo News reported.
According to the report, one policeman was killed and four others were injured in the attack.
The incident coincided with the launch of the second round of Pakistan’s nationwide polio vaccination campaign for 2026.
The five-day campaign aims to immunise more than 45 million children under the age of five.
Pakistan and Afghanistan remain the only countries in the world where the poliovirus has not yet been eradicated.
In recent years, militant groups have repeatedly targeted vaccination teams and their security personnel.
