At least 28 people have been killed and 49 others injured in rain-related incidents across the country, an official said on Monday.
Hafiz Mohammad Yousaf Hammad, spokesman for the Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA), said the incidents had occurred since March 25 in Kabul, Kapisa, Parwan, Panjsher, Bamyan, Daikundi, Paktia, Paktika, Logar, Zabul, Kandahar, Helmand, Herat, Ghor, Balkh, Badghis, Samangan, Sar-i-Pul, Baghlan, Takhar, Jawzjan, Faryab, Badakhshan, Nangarhar and Laghman provinces.
He said the casualties resulted from heavy rains, flash floods, landslides and lightning strikes.
He added about 130 houses were completely destroyed, while 438 others and 10 shops were partially damaged.
Hammad continued that 34 water wells, 93 kilometres of roads, 30 water supply networks, 1,450 acres of agricultural land and 1,938 trees were also destroyed or damaged.
He added that 244 livestock died and 1,130 families were affected during the period.
Provincial departments, under instructions from the authority’s leadership, had taken emergency measures to assist those affected by flash floods, providing cash as well as food and non-food aid, the spokesman concluded.
