A senior member of Islamic State Khorasan Province (IS-K), also known as Daesh and the planner of last year’s attack on a Kabul Bank branch in northern Kunduz province, has been killed by unidentified gunmen in Peshawar, Al-Mirsad reported on Sunday.
According to well-informed security sources cited by Al-Mirsad, Zalmai Badakhshi, a senior operational planner for IS-K, was shot dead in the Shah Kas area of Peshawar.
Badakhshi, also known within IS-K as Salman, fled Afghanistan in October 2025 and relocated to the group’s active centres in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Available information indicates he was directly involved in planning the attack on the Kabul Bank branch in Kunduz, which took place on 11 February 2025.
At the time, Abdul Mateen Qani, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior Affairs (MoI), said eight people were killed and several others wounded in the blast.
He added that findings by security forces and other evidence suggested the perpetrators of such incidents had links outside the country’s borders.
