Shida Mohammad Abdali, Afghanistan’s ambassador to Japan, has announced that the embassy’s operations are suspended as of today (Saturday).
In a statement on X, Abdali said that today marks the last day of the Afghanistan Embassy’s operations in Tokyo. He added, “With a heavy heart, I leave Tokyo.”
On 25 December 2025, the Afghan Embassy in Tokyo had announced that it would suspend its operations after 31 January 2026.
The embassy stated that this decision was made following consultations and was approved by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After 31 January 2026, all embassy activities and services—including political, economic, cultural, and consular functions—will be suspended until further notice.
