Donald Trump called for negotiations with Iran while warning that, otherwise, the next U.S. attack would be more severe, as the United Nations has already expressed concern over rising tensions in the region.
Reuters reported today that U.S. President Donald Trump urged Iran to come to the negotiating table to reach an agreement regarding nuclear weapons; otherwise, any future U.S. strike on Iran would be significantly harsher.
In a message on social media, Trump wrote: “I hope Iran will come to the negotiating table as soon as possible and discuss a fair and just agreement — without nuclear weapons — an agreement that benefits all parties. Time is running out, and this issue is truly critical.”
Trump also stated that U.S. warships are moving toward the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to Iranian state media, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said there has been no recent contact with U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff, and Iran has not made any request for negotiations.
Araghchi added that some countries are attempting to play a mediating role and that Tehran remains in contact with them.
Iranian officials had earlier warned that Tehran would respond strongly if the U.S. carried out another attack.
Trump’s recent remarks come as the United Nations on Monday expressed concern over reports that the United States is dispatching a naval task force to the Middle East and expanding its military presence in the region.
UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, responding to questions during a press briefing, said: “We are clearly seeing reports of escalating military tensions, which are indeed very concerning.”
Overall, recent U.S. movements and previous warnings, combined with UN concerns, indicate a renewed rise in regional tensions. The direction of future developments will determine how the situation unfolds.
