The body of an Afghan PhD student was found in his room in Vadodara city, India, local media reported on Monday.
The deceased, Bainullah Ziya, 34, was pursuing a PhD in the Department of Architecture at Maharaja Sayajirao University (MS University) and was living in a residential apartment in the Fatehgunj area, The Times of India reported.
Police said the body was sent for post-mortem examination and that the death is suspected to be a suicide. However, the exact reasons behind the alleged suicide have not yet been determined.
Officials from the Sayajigunj police station said they are scanning the deceased’s mobile phone to gather clues related to the incident.
Ziya had been living in Vadodara for the past two years. His friends said they knocked on his door on Saturday but received no response, after which they informed the police. Officers forced open the door and found his body lying inside the room, the report added.
