At least one soldier has been confirmed dead and seven others missing as a US military CV-22 Osprey crashed in Japan.
The Special Operations Command of the US Air Force said the plane crashed out of the Yokata Airport in Japan on Wednesday.
Seven on board are still missing while one of them was found unconscious in the water of Yokoshima Island. He later died.
Rescue teams have launched search operations for the missing ones in the coast of Japanese water.
American officials said the cause of the plane crash was not clear and their investigations were ongoing.
But an official of the Japanese Emergency Management Agency said that one of the plane’s engines was on fire.
The Osprey planes have reportedly experienced some fatal incidents before this. An Australian plane crashed last August, killing three US soldiers.
Another Osprey crashed during NATO drills, leaving four US soldiers dead while another plane of the same type went down in 2017. As the plane crashed into the ship it tried to land on, four soldiers were killed.
