Pakistan has warned all Afghan refugees against supporting or funding political and electoral activities in the country.
Violations of the directives would entail deportations irrespective the legal status of the refugees, the Interior Ministry in Islamabad said in a statement on Monday.
Funding any candidate’s political and electoral activities Afghan nationals residing in Pakistan was an unlawful step, the ministry added.
The statement cautioned: “Any Afghan citizen involved in such activities will be deported regardless of his or her legal status in Pakistan.”
Pakistani citizens were also asked not to provide employment to illegal foreigners or assist them in obtaining jobs.
The warning comes ahead of the general elections slated for February 8 and amid ongoing deportations of undocumented Afghan nationals.
A number of Pakistani politicos have moved the Supreme Court to stop the caretaker government from evicting unregistered Afghans.
