At least nine people have been killed and 29 others wounded when a large cache of confiscated explosives detonated at the Nowgam police station near Srinagar in Indian-administered Kashmir, media reports said on Saturday.
According to India’s NDTV, the blast occurred on Friday night after a stockpile of seized explosives stored at the police station went off.
Most of the victims were police personnel and members of a forensic team examining the explosives. Two officials from the Srinagar administration were also among the dead.
The explosion reportedly took place while the team was handling explosive material that had recently been transported from Faridabad in Haryana.
