Thus, landay is not merely a poetic form; it is a declaration of linguistic, emotional, and spiritual freedom.
It also portrays the hidden pain of Pashtoon women — the deep emotions that cannot be spoken aloud but can be heard through the melodies of landay. Just as the village stream (godar) was once a place of laughter, love, and secrets for girls, landay now preserves their untold stories in poetic language.
Pashtoon women, faced with social restrictions, limited mobility, and life’s hardships, entrust their hopes and sorrows to landay. Every wound, unspoken wish, and hidden story finds its way into these two-line verses that connect directly to the hearts of people.
