Indian Charge d’Affaires in Kabul has assured Afghan businessmen of relaxing visa regime and said his country is working on a plan to establish an agriculture research center in Afghanistan titled ‘Afghan-Hindu.’
A statement from the Afghan Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock said that minister Maulvi Attaullah Omari met and held talks with the Charge d’Affaires of the Indian Embassy, Kiran Yadav, at his office.
The statement said that the two sides discussed ways to develop joint cooperation between Afghanistan and India in the fields of agriculture, irrigation, livestock, export of agricultural products, and import of mechanized agricultural equipment and supplies.
The meeting emphasised initiating trade transactions between citizens of the two countries and implementing basic agricultural projects.
Maulvi Attaullah Omari said climate change and the forty-year war, drought and agricultural disasters had severely affected Afghanistan and damaged the quality and quantity of the country’s agricultural products.
He said stressed the need for scientific research in the field of breeding plants resistant to climate change.
The statement said that during the meeting, the Minister of Agriculture requested the Indian government to cooperate in equipping laboratories, building check dams, and strengthening livestock and animal health quality control laboratories. He also said that India should facilitate visas for Afghan traders who export agricultural and livestock products to the country.
The Indian Embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires also said that his country, considering its capabilities, is working on a plan to establish a research center in Afghanistan under the title of “Afghan-Indian” and is also trying to implement new projects.
He also promised to develop face-to-face and online training programs to enhance the capacity of the Ministry of Agriculture’s specialists.
About visa facilitation for Afghan businessmen, the Indian Charge d’Affaires assured that these issues would be pursued through diplomatic channels and implemented in the near future.
