At least 20 people have been killed after a fire broke out following a collision between a private bus and a motorcycle in southern India, local media reported.
Reuters, citing Indian outlets, said the crash occurred on the highway connecting the tech cities of Bengaluru and Hyderabad. The impact caused a fuel leak that sparked a massive blaze, engulfing the bus.
India, the world’s third-largest car market, has some of the deadliest roads globally. According to government data released in January, about 180,000 people were killed in road accidents nationwide last year.
“Of the 41 passengers, 21 have been rescued,” said A. Siri, a district revenue official, told news agency ANI. “Among the remaining, the bodies of 11 have been identified so far,” the official added.
