Iran’s imports from Afghanistan during the first six months of this year exceeded $26 million, an Iranian official in Kabul said on Wednesday.
Hussein Roustaei, Trade Advisor at the Iranian Embassy in Afghanistan, told Pajhwok Afghan News that key imports included barley, cooking oil, plants used in perfume production, wild rue (espand), almonds with shell, unrefined lead, dried fruits, chili, and various legumes.
He said: “Our country’s imports from Afghanistan in the first half of the current year have reached more than $26 million. Other major imported items are animal feed corn, barley, cocoa butter substitute oil, plants used in perfume industry, wild rue, peanuts with shell, unrefined lead, dried fruits, pepper, and various legumes.”
Roustaei also reported a $78 million increase in Iran’s non-oil exports to Afghanistan during the same period.
He said the total value of Iran’s non-oil exports to Afghanistan in the first six months of 2025 reached $1.156 billion, showing a seven percent increase compared to the same period last year.
“The value of non-oil exports increased by $78 million and the weight by 470,000 tons. Overall, Iran’s non-oil exports to Afghanistan in the first half of this year reached $1.156 billion and 3,024 tons by weight, a 14 percent rise compared to the same period last year,” Roustaei added.
According to him, major exports included light oils, petroleum products, light and heavy hydrocarbons, food items, tomatoes, apples, potatoes, eggs, fruits and vegetables, oranges, powdered milk, and other materials.
Roustaei explained Afghanistan ranks fifth among Iran’s export destinations, and the average customs value per ton of exported goods to Afghanistan in the first six months of the year was over $382. This figure is higher than the average customs value per ton of Iranian exports to other countries ($346), indicating higher-value goods being sent to Afghanistan.
