Two Afghan mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters, Farid Basharat and Abdul Karim Badakhshi, have defeated their American and French opponents in separate bouts.
Farid Basharat faced American rival Chris Gutierrez on Sunday under the UFC banner, winning the bout on points and securing the 14th victory of his professional career.
Before this match, Basharat had maintained a perfect record of 13 wins with no losses.
His brother, Javid Basharat — also an MMA fighter — congratulated him on Facebook, writing: “Alhamdulillah, congratulations on the victory!”
Meanwhile, Afghan fighter Abdul Karim Badakhshi triumphed over French opponent Giovanni Fernandez in a match held in the French city of Cognac under the KOC 18 organization.
Abdul Karim’s brother, Abdul Azim Badakhshi, also took to Facebook to celebrate the win, calling it a source of pride for all Afghans.
