Iran’s Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi has said two million undocumented Afghan refugees will be gradually deported by the end of this year.
Iranian media reported, quoting Vahidi as saying, that 1.2 million Afghans have been deported from the country mostly through the Khorasan Razavi border and two million more will be deported.
He said: “According to the program, in the first step, about two million illegal and undocumented refugees who had come to the country will be deported. Currently, over six million Afghans are living in Iran and it is natural that the management of these people requires serious national and international cooperation.”
The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation Affairs recently said that in the past three months alone, nearly two million Afghans returned to Afghanistan from Iran and Pakistan, of which about 1.8 million were forcibly deported.
