The Afghanistan Iron Melting Association says the country has not only achieved self-sufficiency in the production of construction iron products but has also started exporting them to regional countries.
According to the association, Afghanistan previously imported around $1 billion worth of iron products annually. Today, more than 40 factories are active in iron production, employing up to 50,000 people directly and indirectly.
The lack of energy or electricity is considered the biggest challenge in this sector, but efforts are ongoing to find a sustainable solution.
In this regard, we spoke with the association’s Executive Director, Abdul Nasir Rashtia, to learn more about this significant progress.
