Some world leaders on the UN General Assembly’s (UNGA) floor have stressed over the continuation of humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, creation of an inclusive government and expressed serious concerns over the state of women rights in the country.
The 78th gathering of the UNGA kicked off on Wednesday.
Turkiye President Tayyip Erdoğan during his address to the General Assembly said Afghanistan was struggling with problems such as occupation, armed conflicts, terrorism, and misery for almost half a century, is again going through a challenge.
He added the steps to be taken by the Interim Government in the country to protect fundamental human rights, may pave the way for promising developments. Türkiye will continue supporting its Afghan brothers and sisters in these difficult times, he added.
Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to coordinating international efforts.
“We continue to coordinate international efforts and facilitate dialogue between the United Nations, the countries concerned, and the caretaker government of Afghanistan to ensure compliance with the Doha Agreement, in a way that ensures non-recurrence of past mistakes”
Canada Foreign Minister MMelanie Joly strongly condemned isolation of women and girls in Afghanistan and said women rights were human rights and they were not debatable.
She said steps taken against women rights in Afghanistan forced girls to early marriage, destroy their future and deteriorate situation in Afghanistan.
Iranian President Ibrahim Raeesi during his speech called on the international community to provide the assistance necessary to address the crisis of refugees driven from that country — many of whom have been given refuge in Iran.
Leaders of Germany, Belgium, Abania, Denmark,, France, Spain and some other countries have issued a joint statement on gender based discrimination against women and girls in Afghanistan.
They termed women and girls rights situation in Afghanistan terrible and asked the IEA to remove curbs imposed against women and girls rights.
The IEA has not yet responded to the world leaders’ remarks on rights violations and other issues but earlier, the acting Afghan government often stressed that human rights were honored and protected in Afghanistan and no one will be allowed to use Afghanistan’s land against any other country.
