In the eastern part of Toronto, the city of Whitby saw a powerful demonstration of civic engagement as members of the Afghan community came together to support Ryan Turnbull, the Liberal Party candidate and current Member of Parliament.
This gathering was more than just a show of endorsement—it was a call to action. Afghan volunteers actively joined Turnbull’s campaign efforts, going door-to-door, distributing brochures, engaging with local residents, and promoting political participation within their community.
“This is not just a campaign; it is a struggle for community unity, justice, and progress,” said Turnbull during the event. “I am deeply grateful for the support of the Afghan community.”
The event concluded with an exclusive interview conducted by Abdul Basit Karokhel, a journalist from Wesal Television.
The conversation focused on pressing local and national issues including Whitby’s economic development, rising housing costs, education, public safety, immigration policies, and the importance of elevating the voices of Afghan-Canadians.
