Afghan athlete Ali Akbar Amiri has won a gold medal in a global taekwondo event in South Korea.
Zabihullah Shahzad, spokesman for the Afghanistan Taekwondo Federation, wrote on his Facebook page that Amiri outplayed rivals from Canada, Kazakhstan, South Korea and Nigeria.
Amiri earned created history by winning the gold medal and for Afghanistan in the G-2 Korea Open.
Hundreds of players from 30 countries participated in the competition in South Korea, the ATF spokesman said.
Amiri showcased outstanding skills and determination in securing the maiden gold medal for Afghanistan.
