The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced on Friday that it will host a Tri-Nation Series featuring A teams from Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Ireland in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In a statement, the ACB said the series will consist of seven One-Day matches, with Afghanistan A (AfghanAbdalyan) playing a four-day match against each participating team.
The series is scheduled to take place from April 7 to May 2, 2025, in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The tour will begin on April 7 with a four-day match between Afghanistan A and Ireland A. This will be followed by the start of the Tri-Nation One-Day series on April 13, with Ireland A facing Sri Lanka A in the opening match.
The Tri-Nation 50-over series will be played in a round-robin format, with each team facing the others twice. The top two teams from the round-robin stage will advance to the final, which is set for April 25 at the same venue.
After the conclusion of the Tri-Nation Series, Afghanistan A will play Sri Lanka in a four-day match from April 29 to May 3, marking the end of the event.
Naseeb Kha, Chief Executive Officer of the ACB, said, “AfghanAbdalyan have clinched the ACC Men’s T20 Emerging Asia Cup last year, which is a massive achievement. We have a close eye on our A team, which serves as a backup for or senior team. We have arranged regular international assignments for them over the past two to three years, which helped us develop some excellent cricketers in all forms of the game.”
“Competing against Sri Lanka and Ireland will offer our emerging cricketers another excellent opportunity to showcase their talent at the international level and further develop their skills.
We also aim to identify some promising red-ball players from the four-day matches as part of our strategy to enhance our red-ball team and improve the overall standard of our red-ball game in the country,” he added.
