The Pak-Afghan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PAJCCI) has called for the early reopening of the Torkham crossing.
PACCI Senior Vice President Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi highlighted the severe impact of the blockade, which entered the fourth consecutive day on Tuesday.
In a statement, Sarhadi said the shutdown had halted trade between the two neighbours and left thousands of people in distress on both sides.
Approximately, 2,500 goods-laden trucks were stranded on the Pakistani side, waiting for clearance, he said. A similar number of vehicles are stuck on the Afghan side.
Many of these trucks are loaded with perishable commodities, including meat, poultry, vegetables, fruits and juices, which risk spoilage if not transported promptly.
Sarhadi noted hundreds of people, including patients, women, children and elderly passengers, were stranded, anxiously waiting for the crossing to reopen.
Many have been waiting at immigration centres for the past four days without any clear updates on the situation.
The PAJCCI official emphasised sudden and prolonged closures of the Torkham crossing disrupt bilateral trade, causing significant economic losses for businesses on both sides.
He urged Pakistan and Afghanistan to resolve the issue immediately and ensure the uninterrupted movement of trade and passengers.
