In line with their prisoner swap agreement, Israel is expected to release 602 Palestinians and Hamas likely to free six Israelis today, Reuters reported.
On Thursday, Hamas handed over the bodies of four Israeli nationals who had been killed in Israeli airstrikes to the Red Cross.
According to reports, since the start of the Gaza ceasefire, 19 Israeli prisoners have been released in exchange for more than 1,000 Palestinians.
Hamas agreed last month to release 33 Israeli prisoners in exchange for hundreds of Palestinians as part of a six-week ceasefire, during which Israeli forces would withdraw from some positions in Gaza.
The third phase is said to involve the return of the bodies of the deceased and the reconstruction of Gaza under the supervision of Qatar, Egypt and the United Nations.
The war in Gaza began after Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack on Israel. In response, Israel carried out successive airstrikes on the Gaza Strip.
Palestinian officials claim the Israeli attacks have resulted in the deaths of 48,219 people, mostly women and children.
