Veteran leggie Rashid Khan has broken former West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Bravo’s record to become the highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket.
Rashid achieved the historic milestone during MI Cape Town’s Qualifier One match against Paarl Royals in the SA20 League. With this, his total wicket tally across international T20s and franchise leagues has reached 633 wickets.
Rashid has taken 161 wickets for Afghanistan in international T20 matches and 472 wickets in domestic and various franchise leagues worldwide.
“It’s a great achievement,” Rashid told the broadcaster. “I never thought about it, if you asked 10 years before this if I would get there, ” he said at a post-match presentation.
“It’s a proud feeling to be from Afghanistan and to be at that level where you top the table. DJ (Bravo) is one of the best T20 bowlers. It’s a great honour and I’m looking forward to continuing.”
On his Facebook page, the spinner thanked Allah for crossing another milestone in his cricketing career.
“Whatever we are, we are for our country, and every success belongs to our nation. I am happy to become the highest wicket taker in T20 cricket with 633 wickets.”
He also thanked fans for their prayers and unwavering support.
Bravo now ranks second on the all-time T20 wicket-takers’ list. Bravo, who played 582 matches, has taken 631 wickets in the format.
