The Afghanistan Cricket Board on Sunday announced a 16-member squad for a three-match one-day international series against Pakistan in Sari Lanka.
Asadullah Khan, ACB selection committee chairman, told a meeting in this regard that the ODI series against Pakistan would help Afghanistan prepare for the Asia Cup and the World Cup.
He said the coaches would work on any weaknesses in Afghan players if identified in their matches against Pakistan in order to better prepare them for the upcoming games.
He added all players were to ready face Pakistan and play a good game.
The squad is: Hashmat Shahidi (captain) Rahmanullah Garbaz, wicketkeeper, Ibrahim Zadran, Riaz Hassan, Rahmat Shah, Najibullah Zadran, Muhammad Nabi, Ikram Ali Khil, Azmatullah Umarzai, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Zadran, Noor Ahmad Lakanwal, Fazl Haq Farooqi, Abdul Rahman, Salim Sapi and Wafadar Momand.
He added that Shahidullah Kamal and Farid Malik had been named as standby players.
Hosted by Afghanistan, the three ODI matches will be played in Sari Lanka on August 22, 24 and 26.
In response to a question, the selection committee head said all players would take part in the training camp ahead of the ODI series.
In March this year, Afghanistan won a three-match twenty/20 series against Pakistan 2-1.
