Rahila, an Afghan woman, along with her child and husband, who had been imprisoned in Karachi’s central jail for the past two years, has been freed and sent back to Afghanistan, according to the Afghan consulate.
In a video message, the Afghan Consul General in Karachi, Maulvi Sayed Abdul Jabbar Takhari, said that Rahila, who had been incarcerated with her child and husband on charges of drug trafficking and lacking legal documents, was released on Friday and transported back to Afghanistan via the Chaman border.
He also added that approximately 35 other Afghans are currently imprisoned in various prisons across Sindh province, and efforts are underway to secure their release as soon as possible.
Over the past two years, a total of 4,268 Afghans, including women and children, have been freed from different prisons in Sindh province and returned to Afghanistan.
