Some residents of eastern Kunar province say that Pakistani forces fired rockets into two districts, forcing many families to flee their homes.
Afghan forces also carried out retaliatory strikes. However, government sources have yet to comment on the recent attacks.
Haji Awal Khan, a tribal elder from the Alkozai area of Sarkano district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Pakistani rocket strikes targeted the district at midnight on Thursday.
He explained, “Around 12:00 a.m., while our children were asleep, we suddenly heard the sound of heavy weapons fire. There was a loud explosion, and at that moment, the entire village, which is home to about 250 families, fled to safer areas.”
Khan added that Afghan security forces engaged in retaliatory strikes, but Pakistani forces continued to fire rockets on residential areas until 4:00 a.m.
He also said that there is no information yet on casualties or financial losses from these attacks.
Meanwhile, Ezatullah, a resident of Shultan district, said that Pakistani forces fired 52 mortar shells at the hills and other villages in the district since Thursday night.
He expressed frustration, saying, “Once again, Pakistani forces conducted rocket strikes on our areas. Just last night, we counted 52 mortar and heavy weapon strikes. We don’t understand what our fault is, and why Pakistan is firing shells at us.”
