Democracy (republicanism), which is an important aspect of global order and stability, is now considered the most effective system of government worldwide. Many of the world’s most powerful countries define their stability through democracy and, according to democratic principles, nations work together with their governments to further strengthen stability.
However, some countries are still hesitant about democracy and fear that governance through democracy might lead to instability.
Afghanistan, too, has experienced democracy twice, but according to some, these experiences led to the collapse of governing systems, and as a result, the nation became even more fragmented and lost its way due to the poor implementation of the system.
In this program on “Stability,” we have discussed this topic with Abdul Qayyum Momand, a former professor at the American University of Afghanistan and the University of Utah.
According to Professor Momand, democracy is never a cause of instability, and Afghanistan has never truly experienced genuine democracy.
