At least 20 miners, including three Afghans, have been killed and seven others injured in an armed attack on a private coal mine in southeastern Balochistan, Pakistan.
The assailants broke into the miners’ quarters in the Dukki district on Thursday night, according to Al Jazeera. Local police official Hamayun Khan Nasir reported that the gunmen gathered the workers and opened fire.
“A group of armed men attacked the Junaid Coal Company mines in the early hours, using heavy weapons,” Nasir said, adding that the attackers also fired rockets and grenades at the site.
Most victims were from Pashtun-speaking regions of Balochistan, with three of the deceased and four of the injured identified as Afghan nationals. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
