Iran has deported as many as 750,000 undocumented refugees either voluntarily or forcibly to their countries.
Iranian officials emphasize on the expulsion of illegal refugees from the country and say there will be no longer permanent residence for foreign citizens in Iran.
Earlier, Iranian police chief Ahmad-Reza Radan had said about two million undocumented foreigners would be deported from Iran until the end of this year.
In an interview with Tasnim news agency, Ahmad Reza Radan said: “We assure immigrants who have legal residence documents that we are obliged to respect their safety and we will work for them like our own citizens.”
However, he warned the entry of illegal people into his country was intolerable and said: “We firmly state that illegal citizens will not have the possibility to find a job opportunity for themselves, to find accommodation. We will deport two million undocumented foreigners to their countries this year.”
He said 250,000 undocumented immigrants had voluntarily returned to their countries and 500,000 were forcibly deported and the remaining of them would be evicted by the end of this year.
He urged Iranian citizens not to provide undocumented refugees with work and accommodation, otherwise they would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
On the other hand, Waliullah Bayati, spokesman for the Iranian parliament’s internal affairs committee, said there was no such things like permanent residence of foreign nationals in Iran.
He explained according to the plan for foreign nationals, three types of temporary residence were provided to migrants, including one year, three years and possibly seven years.
