Six Afghans have been released from a jail in Pakistan’s port city of Karachi, the Afghan Consulate said on Sunday.
The consulate in Karachi wrote on X the six individuals were freed from the custody of Soldier Bazaar police, following efforts by its officials.
“These Afghans, having immigration cards, had been detained for unknown reasons, but were released at 11:45pm, 45 minutes after their detention, due to the timely action of the Consulate,” it said.
Since November 1, 2023, Pakistan has been forcibly deporting undocumented refugees. About 900,000 afghan refugees have returned from Pakistan so far.
On one pretext or another, Pakistani police have been arresting and harassing Afghan refugees in different parts of that country.
