An American citizen named Andris has embraced Islam in the Jalrez district of Maidan Wardak province, an official said on Monday.
Mufti Abdul Matin Qane, a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior (MoI), wrote on X: “Due to the exemplary conduct of security forces in Jalrez district, an American tourist named Andris has converted to Islam.”
Qane, said the tourist, who was en route to Bamyan province for sightseeing, encountered the district’s security forces at a checkpoint.
He was reportedly inspired by their exemplary behavior and morality, which prompted him to stay with the security personnel.
Consequently, he was taken to the police station, where he converted to Islam at the hands of mujahideen, including the police chief, Kochi Mohammad.
Following his conversion, Andris was given the Islamic name Mahmood.
