In response to the rising temperatures across Afghanistan, the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a series of recommendations to safeguard public health.
The WHO advises people to wear sun hats and sunglasses, spend several hours daily in cool environments, and avoid leaving children unattended in parked vehicles.
Current weather reports indicate that temperatures in Kabul have soared to 34°C, with some provinces experiencing highs of up to 43°C.
On its Facebook page, titled “How can we keep our bodies cool in in extreme heat?” the WHO emphasized the importance of protection against extreme heat, stating, “The temperature in Afghanistan is rising. Protect yourself and your family from the extreme heat.”
The recommendations include staying in the shade, avoiding strenuous activities during peak heat, not leaving children in parked cars, and spending 2 to 3 hours daily in cool spaces.
Additionally, the WHO advises eating small meals throughout the day, wearing light and loose clothing, drinking water regularly, taking cold showers, and using wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses when outdoors.
These measures are designed to help individuals mitigate the adverse effects of high temperatures and ensure their well-being during the heatwave.
