Local officials in western Farah province report that a fire at Sheikh Abu Nasr Farahi Port caused over nine million afghanis in financial losses.
According to port authorities, the fire broke out in a warehouse storing old tires, resulting in damages exceeding nine million afghanis.
Mullah Bahruddin Saifullah, commissioner of Sheikh Abu Nasr Farahi Port, told Pajhwok that the incident occurred around 3:00 PM on Wednesday due to the carelessness of an individual in a tire warehouse near the port’s commissioner office.
He added that the fire was brought under control after approximately 10 hours through joint efforts by Afghan and Iranian forces.
Saifullah said that four fire trucks from Afghanistan, three from Iran, one water cannon, 75 water tankers, and 35 personnel participated in extinguishing the blaze, while soil was spread around the site to prevent further spread.
As a result, 11,000 old tires worth roughly nine million Afghanis, 20 rooms, one container, four cabins, and one Zaranj motorcycle were destroyed.
The commissioner emphasized that security at the port remains fully intact and that residents can continue their commercial and work activities without concern.
