A boat carrying Afghan migrants capsized in the Aegean Sea near the Turkish coastal city of Bodrum, leaving 19 people, including an infant, dead.
According to the Associated Press, the incident occurred today (Wednesday).
Turkish Coast Guard authorities said the boat, carrying dozens of migrants, ignored repeated warnings to stop and attempted to flee at high speed.
The report states that the vessel eventually took on water in rough seas and capsized.
The Coast Guard said rescue teams initially saved 21 people and recovered 18 bodies, while another migrant later died in hospital.
Authorities added that search operations are ongoing for at least one missing person.
Muğla Governor Idris Akbıyık said all the migrants were Afghan nationals, and an infant was among the victims.
