Oshawa (Wesal TV): The Oshawa/Clarington Welcome Centre was officially inaugurated at 200 John Street West in Oshawa, aiming to provide essential services and support to newcomers settling in the Durham region.
Officials said the opening of the centre represents more than just a new facility, describing it as a gateway to opportunity, inclusion, and a better future for individuals and families who have chosen Canada as their home.
The centre will offer modern, digitally supported services designed to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and enhance the overall experience for newcomers as they integrate into Canadian society.
Canadian authorities emphasize that immigration remains central to the country’s identity and economic growth. Officials noted that immigration contributes significantly to labour force expansion and plays a key role in addressing shortages in sectors such as healthcare, skilled trades, construction, and emerging industries.
At the same time, the government has highlighted the need for a balanced approach, stating that immigration levels are being aligned with housing availability, infrastructure, and the capacity of communities to successfully support newcomers.
Beyond economic factors, officials stressed that immigration is also about strengthening families and communities. Canada continues to prioritize family reunification and humanitarian commitments, including support for refugees and vulnerable populations.
Speaking at the event, Ryan Turnbull, Member of Parliament for Whitby, said:

Authorities added that centres like Oshawa/Clarington Welcome Centre play a vital role in helping newcomers access services, build connections, and find meaningful opportunities.
The federal government is also taking steps to strengthen the integrity of the immigration system through measures aimed at preventing fraud, enhancing border security, and modernizing services using digital tools.
