At least five people were killed and four others injured in a traffic accident in northeastern Badakhshan Province, an official said on Sunday.
Police chief Saifuddin Azim, said the incident occurred around 5:00am today when a Land Cruiser-type vehicle veered off the road and overturned in Shahr-i-Bozorg.
The district of Shahr-i-Bozorg has frequently witnessed deadly traffic accidents, mostly due to poor road conditions and the difficult terrain of the area.
Local residents, expressing concern over the repeated incidents, have called on the government to pay serious attention to road construction and rehabilitation in the district.
