United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned the recent attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran.
On Saturday, the US and Israel launched joint strikes on multiple Iranian cities. In retaliation, Iran targeted several US military bases in Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain with missile attacks.
US President Donald Trump announced Saturday night that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, had been killed in the attacks. Iran’s Tasnim News Agency later confirmed his death.
Speaking at the UN Security Council, Guterres said: “International law and international humanitarian law must always be respected. For this reason, I have condemned the large-scale military attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran.”
He warned that such attacks threaten international peace and stability and emphasized that peaceful solutions remain the only way to resolve disputes.
Guterres also condemned Iran’s missile strikes on Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
