Around 300 Afghans stranded in severe snow and rain at the Taybad border in neighbouring Iran have been rescued, a media report said on Tuesday.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Hassan Jamshidi, commander of Taybad district, said the individuals were stranded in border areas shared by Iran and Afghanistan amid harsh weather conditions and were rescued through the efforts of the armed forces.
He said forces deployed in the area identified the group, transferred them to safe locations and provided hot meals and basic medical services.
After completing health checks and legal procedures, the individuals will be returned to Afghanistan, he added.
Iranian officials also stressed that illegal entry through dangerous border routes posed serious risks and preventing it required bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
