The Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) will cease operations on January 31, 2026, bringing an end to 17 years of activity.
“SIGAR will officially close as an agency on January 31, 2026. We thank everyone who followed, used, and supported SIGAR’s independent oversight over the past 17 years,” the watchdog said in a post on its X account.
The office was established by the US Congress in 2008 to monitor American aid and spending in Afghanistan.
