US President Donald Trump has once again warned the Iranian government against using violence against protesters.
The recent protests in Iran, which began amid a sharp rise in the value of the dollar, have gradually spread to several cities across the country and have now entered their eighth consecutive day.
On Sunday, speaking to journalists aboard Air Force One, Trump stated that if Iran “begins killing people” as it has in the past, it will face a strong response from the United States.
Two days earlier, he had also warned the Iranian government that if protesters are “killed,” the U.S. would step in to protect them.
The BBC, without providing further details, reported that the United Nations Human Rights Council’s special rapporteur expressed concern over the “killing of eight protesters” during the recent demonstrations.
So far, Iran has not responded to Trump’s latest remarks. However, regarding his previous statements, Iran described them as interference in a letter to the UN Secretary-General and the head of the Security Council and strongly rejected them.
