German Foreign Minister says the review of cases and flight arrangements for the resettlement of Afghans who hold legally binding admission commitments has been accelerated and placed among the country’s priorities until the end of the current calendar year.
Johann Wadephul said Germany intends to transfer Afghans who have already received admission promises so they can enter the country as soon as possible, DW reported.
He added that the issue has now been given top priority.
Wadephul warned that if delays continue, Afghans waiting in Pakistan could face the risk of deportation starting early next year.
Earlier, Germany’s Interior Ministry had said that hundreds of Afghans who had received admission promises would not be allowed to enter the country.
A spokesman for the Interior Ministry said that in the coming days, Afghans listed under the so-called temporary admission programme or the human rights list would be informed that there was no longer any political will to accept them.
