Afghan and Indian officials have stressed the need to expand economic and industrial cooperation and New Delhi invited Afghanistan to participate in 2026 Bharat Tex Expo.
Director of Economic Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) along with Alhaj Arif, head of industrial parks, met with officials from India’s Ministry of Textiles, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) said.
A statement from the ministry said the two sides discussed opportunities and the need to strengthen and expand economic and industrial cooperation between Afghanistan and India, particularly in the areas of cotton production and processing, capacity building, standardisation of industries and modernisation of the textile and garment sector.
During the meeting, the Indian side formally invited Afghanistan to take part in the ‘Bharat Tex’ exhibition and showcase its products.
The ministry added that both sides also discussed technology exchange, the launch of professional training programmes, technical assistance for improving cotton quality, and evaluation of joint production projects.
Both sides also agreed in principle to form a joint technical committee to follow up on the topics discussed, hold detailed talks on cooperation in the cotton and textile sectors and develop specific collaboration plans.
This comes after a delegation led by Minister of Commerce and Industry Nooruddin Azizi travelled to India last week for discussions with Indian officials on expanding cooperation in various economic and industrial fields.
The 2026 Bharat Tex expo is scheduled to be held from July 14 to 17 in New Delhi.
