A wide-body UPS cargo plane has crashed during takeoff at Louisville International Airport in Kentucky, killing at least seven people and injuring 11 others, media reports said on Wednesday.
The crash occurred around 5:15 p.m. local time on Tuesday as the aircraft was departing for Honolulu, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The impact triggered a massive fire, sending a thick plume of black smoke over the area, Reuters reported.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear confirmed the casualties, saying seven people had been killed and 11 others injured, some with “very significant injuries.”
“Anybody who has seen the images or video knows how violent this crash is,” Beshear added.
The FAA said three crew members were on board at the time of the crash.
