Three police officers have been killed and two others critically wounded in a shooting incident in the US state of Pennsylvania, according to a media report on Thursday.
Reuters quoted officials as saying that the confrontation took place on Wednesday in Codorus Township, York County, in southeastern Pennsylvania. The officers were reportedly shot during an encounter with a gunman, who was later killed by police.
According to State Police Commissioner Colonel Christopher Paris, the officers had returned to the scene as part of a follow-up investigation from the previous day.
“They were there to follow up on an investigation that began yesterday,” Colonel Paris said at a press conference, describing the incident as “domestic-related,” but declined to provide further details.
Three officers lost their lives, while two others who were also shot were transported to a nearby hospital.
