At least five people have been killed and 29 others injured in an explosion in the city of Quetta, Balochistan, with some reports putting the death toll at 13.
The blast occurred on Tuesday night, Dawn reported.
The Balochistan Health Department confirmed in a statement that the explosion took place after a meeting of the Balochistan National Party (Mengal) commemorating the death anniversary of the party’s founder, Attaullah Mengal.
The department reported that five individuals had been killed and 29 injured in the attack, with the wounded being transported to nearby hospitals.
However, acting party leader and lawyer, Sajid Tareen, speaking from the hospital, told reporters that 13 party workers were killed in the blast, with several others injured. The explosion occurred in a parking lot after the meeting.
Balochistan’s Chief Minister, Sarfaraz Bugti, strongly condemned the attack, saying, “Elements with ill intentions are shedding the blood of innocent people. However, we will defeat the evil designs of terrorists at all costs.”
As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
