The Pashdan dam in western Herat province will officially be inaugurated tomorrow (Thursday).
In an invitation sent to media, the Ministry of Energy and Water (MoEW) said it was honoured to inaugurate the Pashdan dam irrigation and power generation project in Karukh district, as part of efforts towards the country’s reconstruction and development.
The Pashdan Dam is located 25 kilometres east of Herat city in Karukh district.
The dam stands 74 metres high, has a storage capacity of 54 million cubic metres of water, a power generation capacity of two megawatts and will irrigate 13,000 hectares of land.
Residents of Herat, welcoming the inauguration of the project, say it would renew hope for a rise in groundwater levels across Herat city.
Meanwhile, Maulvi Noor Ahmad Islamjar, the governor of Herat, assured residents during a public gathering on Tuesday that the local administration will fully resolve the province’s electricity problem.
