At least 67 Palestinians have been killed and dozens more wounded by Israeli forces in northern Gaza, a media report said on Monday.
Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinians who had gathered in northern Gaza on Sunday while waiting for United Nations aid trucks, Reuters reported, citing Gaza’s Health Ministry.
The Ministry confirmed that dozens of people were also injured in the incident, which marks one of the deadliest among a series of recent attacks on aid seekers.
This follows a similar incident on Saturday, in which 36 Palestinians were killed. Additionally, six more fatalities were reported near another aid distribution site in southern Gaza.
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) confirmed that shortly after a convoy of 25 trucks carrying food aid entered Gaza, it was met by “massive crowds of hungry civilians” who were subsequently targeted with gunfire.
The WFP condemned the violence, stating in a statement, “Any violence involving civilians seeking humanitarian assistance is completely unacceptable.”
Since the start of Israel’s military offensive in Gaza, reports indicate that nearly 59,000 Palestinians have been killed and around 141,000 others have been injured.
