At least 60 people have been killed and 11 others are missing after a massive fire broke out at a commercial market in the eastern Iraqi city of Al-Kut, according to media reports on Thursday.
Reuters reported: “A massive fire in a hypermarket in Al-Kut city in eastern Iraq has left at least 60 people dead and 11 others missing.”
A health official said: “We have compiled a list of 59 victims whose identities have been confirmed, but one body was so badly burned that identification has been extremely difficult.”
The cause of the fire remains unknown. However, the provincial governor stated that initial findings from an investigation are expected to be announced within 48 hours.
