Three children have been killed and about 250 houses destroyed due to flash floods in three districts of central Logar province, an official said on Sunday.
Sediq Ahmad Sediqi, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the worst-hit areas included Pul-i-Alam city, Mohammad Agha, Baraki Barak, and Azra district.
He explained that around 50 houses were completely destroyed, while the remaining 200 homes sustained significant damage due to the floods.
In addition to the destruction of homes, the floods have ravaged approximately 7,500 acres of agricultural land and gardens, and severely damaged rural roads, bridges, and culverts.
A survey to assess the damage and identify the needs of affected families has already begun, with various agencies coordinating emergency relief efforts. Immediate assistance will be provided to flood victims as soon as possible, according to Sediqi.
The floodwaters have also claimed the lives of three children.
According to the spokesman, the first child died in the Pul-i-Kandahari area of Mohammad Agha district, while the second was killed in the Shah Mazar area of Baraki Barak district. A third child perished in the Babaro area of Azra district, and two other individuals were injured in Mohammad Agha district.
Locals have voiced their concern about the impact of the floods on their communities.
Nematullah, a resident of Pul-i-Alam city, told Pajhwok that the recent floods had caused significant financial losses for residents in the central Pul-i-Alam, Mohammad Agha, and Azra districts.
He called on the government and international organizations to provide urgent assistance to flood-affected families in the province.
Ruhullah, a member of a flood-affected family, echoed these concerns, emphasizing that the floods had inflicted both financial and personal losses on the people of Logar.
He urged both the government and international organizations to prioritize urgent aid for those affected by the disaster.
