Preliminary results from Canada’s federal election indicate that the Liberal Party has won 167 out of 343 electoral districts. Although it emerged as the leading party, it did not secure the 172 seats required for a majority, and will therefore form a minority government.
Led by Mark Carney, the Liberal Party has earned the mandate to form the next government.
However, lacking a majority, it will need to negotiate with smaller parties to maintain confidence in Parliament and ensure legislative stability.
The Conservative Party secured 145 seats, the Bloc Québécois won 23, the New Democratic Party (NDP) obtained 7, and the Green Party captured just one seat.
It is worth noting that former Liberal leader Justin Trudeau also led minority governments following the 2019 and 2021 federal elections.
It is worth noting that the results in 33 ridings are not yet finalized, and changes may occur in the final election results.
